Q: Is the school Magazine Sale a PTO fundraiser?
A: No. The Magazine Sale is a fundraiser organized by the school principal. The funds raised from the sale go to purchase supplemental classroom materials such as science equipment, reading materials and printed cartridges for the school.
Q: Where can I get a Student Directory?
A: The student directory is available to Canavan families and is sold through the PTO in October. If you didn't get one then, there may still be some available. Contact chair person Diane Boccio at (330) 598-1722.
Q: What is the Canavan Cafe?
A: Canavan Cafe opens in September. Two students from each class will be invited to attend the Cafe and to have lunch with the school principal. Students can earn this privilege through following directions, working hard, cooperating with peers and with teachers and by generally setting a fine example at Ella Canavan. Students may also be selected for demonstrating great improvement in a particular area. The PTO decorates and serves this special lunch.

Q: Can my child ride their bike or scooter to school?
A: Only if they are in 4th or 5th grade. Even with adult supervision, students in grades K-3 are not permitted to ride bicycles or scooters to school. Q: How does the school pay for Special Education needs?
A: The Medina City School District is scheduled to receive federal flow-thru funds during the 2008/2009 school year. These federal funds will be used by the district to provide special education classrooms, and needed related services for handicapped pre-school and school-aged children.
These federal funds are used to pay salaries of special education teachers, tutors, paraprofessionals, speech therapists, occupational therapists and physical therapists as well as purchase needed special education supplies and equipment.
The Education of All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 requires all school districts who apply for federal funds for special education purposes to make their plans available to parents and the general public.
Residents are invited to review the grants. Comments and questions should be directed to the Director of Student Services, Dr. Kristine Quallich (330) 636-3090.
